Alex Thomson breaks single-handed monohull transatlantic record

British sailor, Alex Thomson recently beat the single-handed monohull transatlantic record by more than 24 hours, sailing HUGO BOSS over the finish line at Lizard Point, off Falmouth in Cornwall.

Alex set sail from New York on 17th July covering 2800 nautical miles to beat the current record holders under 60ft single-handed monohull record for men, which sat at 10 days, 55 minutes and 19 seconds and was set by Swiss sailor Bernhard Stamm, 10 years ago.

There was further urgency to reach the finishing line as Alex was determined to get home in time for the 2012 London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.  Alex does not intend on stopping there, he is preparing to attempt to be the first Brit to win the single-handed round-the-world race, the Vendee Globe in November.

Among his many supporters were Navtec and Lewmar; HUGO BOSS was equipped with Navtec’s Z-System PBO rigging and Anti-Torsion PBO forestays.  Navtec will also be supplying a new set of PBO to HUGO BOSS in August as Alex attempts to become the first British winner of the Vendee Globe.
