Yachting Pages has put several of the leading safety cases (and other associated products) to the test. The objective: to ascertain how each product performs and determine which one is best equipped to safely contain a lithium battery-induced fire.
The fist hull in the Limited Editions 188 series has been launched by Dutch buliders Amels and named Volpini 2.
This 57.7-metre (189-foot) displacement yacht features a 10.6-metre beam allowing for a spacious interior totalling 970GT.
Her interiors came from the boards of Reymond Langton Design, while Tim Heywood undertook her exterior styling, which features generous outdoor spaces spread over four decks, including a 30-square-metre beach club, a gym sauna and Hammam.
A flying buttress was used as an architectural feature in the centre of the boat to conceal electronic cables and save space. The designers also added windows to the aft door to allow more light inside during cruising.
Accommodation allows for up to 12 guests split across six cabins, including an owner’s cabin measuring 80 square metres, a VIP cabin on the bridge deck, two doubles and two twins. Her crew quarters are for up to 13 people.
Volpini 2 is the first hybrid-powered Limited Editions yacht. She features Amels' own hybrid switchboard and waste-heat-recovery systems, which is believed to offer a €150,000 return on investment over a three-year period.
She will be put to the test in upcoming sea trials, where the yard is predicting a top speed of 15.5 knots.
