Crew nominations open for the John Percival Leadership Award 2016

UK crew training school, John Percival Marine Associates (JPMA) has announced the opening of crew nominations for the 2016 John Percival Leadership Awards, as the scheme enters its third year.

Created in 2014 in memory of the late Captain John Percival – an ambassador for on-board training and investment in yacht crew – the scheme rewards international crew members who personify that ideal at all levels.

In a statement released by the training school, the centre explained that it is now searching for its 2016 winner in the hope that, having completed training at the school the winner will return to their vessel emboldened to inspire students and nurture junior crew.

They asked crew to nominate the true leaders aboard the yachts on which they work, adding, “Does your bosun guide you in your career decisions, sharing knowledge and recommending courses? Does your engineer explain what goes on within the engine room, letting you shadow engine room checks? Does your chef share tips and techniques, encouraging crew to expand their culinary knowledge and abilities? If so – tell us!”

Nominations are now open, with the school asking for entries to be emailed to mate@hss.ac.uk with an explanation of why this member of your crew (past or present) deserves to be the recipient of the 2016 John Percival Leadership Award, which will be presented at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS).

The deadline for applications is Friday 30th September 2016.
