Scuba diving is enjoyed by millions of people each year without incident, but it is not without risk. Dive Superyacht’s new Dive Safety Review is an in depth audit into the facilities and procedures in place on superyachts to ensure that every step is taken to reduce risk whilst diving.
Many superyachts offer diving as an activity for owners and guests; however the diving that takes place can be infrequent. Completing a Dive Safety Review gives captains and crew reassurance that their dive operations are functioning as they should, and if not, they will receive feedback on what improvements need to be made to enhance safety.
The Dive Safety Review is available for all superyachts. It takes approximately a day to complete depending on the facilities and dive equipment on board. As well as ensuring that all dive related equipment is suitable for use, the review looks at the procedures and risk assessments in place with crew to ensure that every step has been taken to reduce risk.
Emily Petley-Jones, managing director at Dive Superyacht commented, “Having worked with crews from superyachts it has become apparent that the Dive Safety Review is something that is needed. The interpretation of safe diving practices varies dramatically from one superyacht to another. I have seen superyachts that allow diving to take place without serviced equipment, without risk assessments and without even checking to see if the divers are certified.”
Dive Superyacht’s PADI course director added, “Our focus is on education. Most of the time when we find problems on board it is due to crew not knowing an industry standard or realising the liability implications that could result from a standard not being upheld.”
