The Panamanian Consulate in Marseille commemorated its 114 years serving the maritime industry this summer by hosting a coffee-tasting session for guests from the French maritime sector. Panamanian coffee expert Juan Pardini led the event, inviting guests to sample different types of geisha coffee from Panama and learn more about ‘the coffee route of Panama’.
Geisha coffee from Panama is unique because the grain is harvested in mountainous areas above 1,600 metres the slopes of the Barú volcano, in a cold and rainy microclimate between the two nearby oceans. It is the result of Panama’s privileged position between both the Pacific and the Caribbean, as well as the clash of winds in opposite directions.
The ‘coffee route’ is Ruta del Café Chiricano, an agritourism and ecological project developed by the Competitiveness Center of the Western Region of Panama and the Tourism Authority of Panama with the support of various companies, coffee producers, agencies, tourism operators and professionals. The vision is to promote visits to the area as an eco-tourism destination that combines coffee production with the adventure of staying in a sustainable paradise.
Guests enjoyed the coffee tasting and insight into the history of Panamanian coffee.
The Consulate also used its anniversary celebrations to underline its marketing strategy and the recent improvements to its digital presence.
It continues to focus on the registration of yachts and superyachts as well as all the necessary procedures so that crew can request, process and obtain their seaman books digitally. The Consulate has also reinvented its social media presence and will be present at both Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show this year.
