Glider Yachts launches new funding round for SL24 model

After receiving “overwhelming interest” for its new SS18 model at the 2017 Monaco Yacht Show, with over 50 qualified clients registering their interest, Glider Yachts has announced the launch of a new funding round to build its new SL24 Sports Limousine model.

With the design attracting considerable interest from superyachts and private island resorts where the model would be used as a chase boat or luxury shuttle, the new funding round aims to attract investors to support the next stage in the development programme, which will see the model constructed.

Rob McCall, CEO of Glider Yachts, said, “When we displayed the 18m Glider at Monaco last year, we also visually launched the new Sports Limousine model and we were overwhelmed with the response.”

The new SL24 is able to carry 12 passengers, including two crew members, and can reach speeds of up to 50 knots. But the outstanding features are its design and performance.

McCall explained, “In terms of its interior styling, it would even put the top jets to shame. Gliders are more like an aircraft, and we’re working with the people that lead the world in business jet interiors.”

According to the shipyard, Gliders reduce wave motions felt on board by up to 70% in comparison to a conventionally hulled boat, with McCall adding that “it performs astonishingly well in rough water.”

The first Glider model was built at Burgess Marine, but the new models are now to be built in Southampton. Other projects currently underway at the British yard include plans for larger ranges up to 80m, which should start in 2019.
