Marina Port Vell (MPV) is set to become one of the world’s most elite superyacht destinations and as a result of phased marina completions throughout 2014, one of the leading yacht ports in the Mediterranean — announced that it has formally signed the “Acords Voluntaris” initiative developed by the Climàtic Canvi Catalan Office of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
As one of the first Catalan companies to sign up, the initiative is designed to reduce greenhouse gases by measuring emissions, implementing measures to reduce CO2 discharge and continually monitoring effectiveness.
Norma Trease, Director of Salamanca Group’s Marine Division said, “Marina Port Vell is deeply committed to environmental protection. Throughout the past three years, we have paid particular attention to the implementation and certification of our environmental management system, ensuring that it meets ISO 14001 and EMAS regulations. Committing to a local mandate for additional natural resource protection is an additional indication of our looking to be as green as possible.”
The Climàtic Canvi’s initiative requires organisations to hold accountability beyond legal or regulatory statutes. Within its advanced environmental technologies, Marina Port Vell will also monitor fossil fuel and electricity consumption.
Results of the emissions inventory are public and can be accessed on www20.gencat.cat/portal/site/canviclimatic
