Yachting Pages has put several of the leading safety cases (and other associated products) to the test. The objective: to ascertain how each product performs and determine which one is best equipped to safely contain a lithium battery-induced fire.
UK-based Maritime Skills Academy has announced a new STCW Shipboard Safety Officer course, available from January 2022. The three-day course has also gained UK Chamber of Shipping course recognition.
The course is suitable for seafarers who are already serving as either safety representatives or safety officers. It provides theoretical and practical training to allow candidates to undertake the duties of a shipboard safety officer, as detailed by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
The course addresses both accident prevention and accident investigation and covers the relationship between the ISM code and safety management on board, the accident investigation process, and much more.
Mark Jaenicke, training and performance director at Maritime Skills Academy, commented, “It’s a huge advantage for us to be independently verified and certified by an internationally recognised organisation such as The UK Chamber of Shipping. We believe we set high standards as a training provider and wanted to prove that by gaining course approval. It’s great to add another course under the service and we must thank the recognition team at The UK Chamber of Shipping in providing a fantastic service.”
