New 50-metre Aluminium Explorer project revealed

French shipbuilder JFA Yachts has announced the construction of a 50-metre (164-foot) custom explorer yacht, designed by Humphreys Yacht Design, a world-renowned studio based in Lymington, UK.

The design of the yacht has been developed over the past two years, working closely with the client and owner’s representative Christian Poorte of A2B Marine Projects. The brief was to design an explorer yacht to family use and global cruising, featuring exceptional efficiency, comfort and safety levels.

The Aluminium Explorer is the first motor yacht in the JFA shipyard that has been built with an aluminium hull and a superstructure partially in composite glass epoxy. The building of the hull is due to begin in Autumn 2021, and construction is scheduled for completion in 2024.

The new motor yacht will have a light displacement, stabiliser fins combined with a large gyro, and the capacity to carry sizeable tenders and multiples toys. Hybrid propulsion is also a notable characteristic of this new yacht, taking into account a high level of autonomy and sustainability.

The exterior design features extensive use of glazing and single level decks to facilitate 360-degree views and to provide a real connection with the yacht’s surroundings. The interior design comes from the drawing boards of m2atelier’ the international design studio based in Milan founded by architects Marijana Radovic and Marco Bonneli.

Tom Humphreys, director at Humphreys Yacht Design, commented, “The design has benefitted from a highly integrated approach to marry all the technical, functional and client specific requirements and underpinned through a rigorous naval architecture effort where intensive CFD work was ultimately validated by one of the most comprehensive model testing programs.”

Frédéric Jaouen, CEO at JFA Yachts, said, “Since 1993, the expertise of JFA Yachts based on constructions or renovations, all different from each other, allows us to go further. We see in this unique project both a great confidence and recognition of all these years of service to our clients.”
