Panama launches new and advanced digital ship registration system

Due to the PMA Ship Registry’s uninterrupted operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, The General Consulates of Merchant Marine can issue ship navigation certificates and radio licenses in both printed and electronic format.

With these new techniques, the use of the scanned digital signature is being introduced. Both options, on paper and in electronic format, will be kept and will be operational on board. This ensures that all ship owners and their ships will receive the required documents in real time.

S.E. Issamary Sanchez Ortega, Consul of Panama in Marseille, noted, “We will have a smooth and controlled transition period, keeping both options (paper and electronic), assuring that this phase will proceed in a good manner, until the more of 8,000 registered ships move to electronic records.”
