Super-size Kleven explorer yacht delivered after lengthy construction

Norwegian shipyard Kleven has confirmed the delivery of 116-metre (381-foot) explorer yacht Ulysses.

The impressive new vessel has been in construction for almost four years, with her technical build finished in December 2016 in Norway and interiors and exteriors completed in Bremerhaven, Germany under the project management of Dörries Maritime. She begins her maiden season in the Mediterranean in the coming weeks.

Kleven’s latest project is nearly 10 metres longer than the 107-metre (351-foot) Andromeda, formerly known as Ulysses and sold in 2017. The new Ulysses expands upon the company’s MT 5006 MKII Expedition Support Vessel (ESV) base with naval architecture by compatriot Marin Teknikk. Kyle Dick, of New Zealand-based Oscar Mike Naval Architects, sculpted the stylish exterior lines and worked closely with the U.K.’s RWD studios on her interiors.

Ulysses boasts a number of features so that guests and owners can cruise in complete comfort – even during extended expeditions in tricky conditions and rougher waters. She benefits from an 18-metre beam and can accommodate up to 66 people, with fixtures and fittings coming from renowned luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Hareid Group and Jets and Sperre.

On the top deck is a heli hangar with plenty of space for a Bell 429 helicopter, and the well deck houses a bespoke 21-metre (69-foot) Princess 68 yacht. Ulysses also boasts a fleet of high-speed and day-cruising tenders.

During the latter stages of her construction in Germany, Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven, commented, “Drawing on our extensive experience in building complex offshore vessels, this new vessel type serves as a great example of how close cooperation within the Norwegian maritime cluster brings the industry forward and into new markets.”

The anonymous owner, who visited Ulysses a number of times during her build, also commented at the time, “I am very pleased with the quality of the work that has been done by Kleven, and how our organisations have worked together to bring this exciting project to life.”
