ThirtyC unveils Natural History Museum-inspired superyacht concept

British yacht designer ThirtyC has revealed Komodo, a 53-metre (174-foot) superyacht concept inspired by the Natural History Museum.

Targeted at the “younger generation”, Komodo is a “flexible platform” that, according to ThirtyC, offers a “stripped back, active and adventurous lifestyle anywhere in the world”.

Early sketches indicate that Komodo will feature glass skylines, sliding walls and moving roof panes, which, creative director Rob Armstrong noted, were inspired by London’s Natural History Museum.

“It’s a modern take on the large ceilings of Victorian buildings, much like the Natural History Museum. We wanted to create something that would be a statement for a boat of this size and feature characteristics you would only find on a 70-metre plus superyacht, all the while maintaining a realistic lead time in build.”

Komodo is characterised as “sharp, angular and aggressively-styled”, and will accommodate up to 10 guests across five double cabins. The main-deck master cabin will look out to the bow area, and come equipped with a dressing room and en-suite, as well as an outside Jacuzzi.

Key features of the main deck include a lobby connecting to a cinema and private office with sliding-door access to a folding balcony. The other four cabins are situated below deck, along with a gym.

An array of tenders can be stored in Komodo’s tender garage, which also has scope to be redesigned by the owner.

The superyacht will boast a folding transom platform, which will transform into a beach club. A dining area with panoramic views will also be located on the main deck, which also features sliding doors and a spacious saloon beneath glazed ceiling windows.

Alastair Fletcher, design director, added, “Komodo is aimed at a more relaxed lifestyle, far-flung, casual cruising with an emphasis on outdoor living and watersports. There are many features designed to open up the interior space as well, removing tired or formal boundaries associated with compartmentalised living.”
