Wally Yachts issues first look at game-changing new range of cruiser-racers

The first details of Wally Yachts’ brand new wallywind110 range have been made public. The three sailing boat models range from 33.5 metres (110-foot) to 46 metres (150-foot), establishing a new market for owners interested in high-tech performance allied to long-range cruising comfort.

Building work has already begun on the first unit of the wallywind110 range, which is scheduled to be launched in May 2024. The vessel will sport a full carbon hull and a simplified sail handling system.

The project unites Wally’s expertise, with naval architecture by Germany based Judel/vrolijk & Co. The collaboration has resulted in a boat whose lines display Wally’s characteristic simplicity and elegance, while offering beguiling pace and stability.

Stefano de Vivo, managing director at Wally Yachts, commented, “The wallywind110 is the equivalent of the Grand Touring car in the automotive world. It is a very powerful yet smooth long-distance cruising machine - but one that could become a serious challenger in a race if you felt so inclined.”

Other technical highlights include the use of lightweight lithium-ion batteries and auxiliary equipment, multiple high-pressure hydraulic pumps for maximum redundancy, and a low-profile twin rudder set-up.

The huge 80m² cockpit is on a single level and fills the full beam. The sailing boat also features a fully customisable layout, with seating and dining for up to 15 people.

One of the most appealing design elements is the removable deck furniture. Every seat, sunbed, lounger and table can be removed and kept ashore to ready the wallywind110 for racing. There is also a large tender compartment hidden beneath the deck, capable of harbouring a boat up to 4m (13ft) long.

Luca Bassani, founder and chief designer at Wally Yachts, said, “The raised bulwarks do the job of disguising the fact that this is a raised saloon yacht, with the engine room beneath the floor. That means all the advantages of the layout, without the compromised aesthetics.”
