Cannes Yachting Festival postpones decision to hold festival

The organisers of Cannes Yachting Festival have announced that the decision to open the festival this year has been postponed until Friday (21st August 2020).

A meeting will be held on Thursday (20th August 2020), to look at in person, on the site of the port of Cannes, the way in which Reed Expositions France intends to implement the various health measures from an operational point of view.

Michel Vilair, managing director of Reed Expositions France, and Sylvie Ernoult, director of the yachting festival, released the following statement:

“We are still not in a position to be able to confirm that the Festival can be held, having not yet obtained the indispensable prefectural dispensation. We will get back to you by Friday 21st August at the latest and whatever the outcome, after the meeting with the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes scheduled the day before.

“Aware of the constraints and problems this scenario may generate for all our clients, we have reminded the prefectural authorities of the urgency to obtain this dispensation to open the Festival, which the majority of the nautical sector is waiting for and sees as a sign of hope in resuming activities. We are extremely grateful to you for your continuous commitment, attentiveness and understanding in this situation, and remain fully mobilised to enable the 2020 Yachting Festival to open.”

The announcement comes after a meeting which was held on Monday (17th August 2020) at the subprefecture of Grasse, attended by the prefectural authorities, the City of Cannes, the Regional Health Authority (ARS), safety services and Reed Expositions France.

During this meeting, the Yachting Festival management presented a series of additional health measures, further reinforcing the health protocol already approved by the APAVE (leading independent certification organisation).

The 43rd edition of Cannes Yachting Festival is due to take place from 8th - 13th September 2020.
