Experts Answer Industry’s Turkey and UAE Questions at ASMEX

Questions about business opportunities in Turkey or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be addressed at the ASMEX (Australian Superyacht and Marine Export) conference on 22nd to 23rd May.

The seminar will be held at Sanctuary Cove, a luxury resort in the Gold Coast area of Queensland, Australia, and takes place immediately prior to the Sanctuary Boat Show (May 24th to 27th).

ASMEX has invited two industry experts to its event. One is Ozgur Tuna, the Business Development Manager for Austrade, which assists Australian businesses in foreign trade and investment. Erwin Bamps, a Chief Operating Officer for Gulf Craft, will give a presentation.

Antalya-born Ozgur, who is now based in Istanbul, will share his considerable experience of helping companies set-up or expand their operations in Turkey. His background includes working for UK Trade and Investment in Istanbul for which he looked after the Superyacht sector.

Ozgur’s invite follows a recent trade mission to Turkey organised by AIMEX (Australian International Marine Export Group). AIMEX visited eight superyacht builders in the country, and was so impressed that it asked Ozgur to share his expertise at its next conference.

“In the current economic environment everyone is looking for new markets and Turkey is definitely a market that has opportunity for Australian companies. Having someone with [Ozgur’s] capability on the ground in Turkey is invaluable for Australian companies,” said a statement released by ASMEX.

Meanwhile, Erwin Bamps’ presentation will offer a “strong message” and outline his “considerable ambitions” for Gulf Craft in the UAE, says ASMEX. Erwin will advise attendees on how to operate a sustainable business in the current global economic climate, and share his thoughts on the UAE market and his predictions for the future.

“I consider people and negotiation skills to be my biggest assets, to create and grow brands and to improve bottom-line profitability,” said Bamps. “I tend to thrive in recession times, where fast and hands-on decision making, constant risk control and clear opportunity identification can gain you essential market share increase.”

Gulf Craft is the Middle East and Africa’s largest and leading producer of fibreglass boats and yachts. The company exports over 70% of its production to 40 countries through the Majesty Yachts, Oryx and Silvercraft brands.

The company also builds multi-decked motor cruisers which rank among the world’s best in terms of design, quality and material. Gulf Craft is one of a handful of boat-builders in the world capable of producing yachts of longer than 100ft in overall length.

“Having someone like Erwin addressing the conference with his dynamic style, his record of success and knowledge of the UAE and global markets is invaluable for the Australian marine industry,” said Mary-Anne Edwards, CEO of AIMEX.

“It is very exciting as we have pulled together an amazing line-up of speakers from across the globe.  In this climate this injection of enthusiasm, knowledge and insights is what we all need.”
