Grand Banks Yachts has announced it is set to purchase a marina and service yard in Stuart, Florida, which will serve as the company’s U.S. headquarters.
The 12,000 square-foot base, to be named Stuart Yacht Basin, will be managed by Grand Banks America COO Hank Compton, who has been with the company for 14 years. In addition to managing the main factory operations, Compton has managed sales and sales development in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
In a statement, Compton commented, “The acquisition of Stuart Yacht continues to follow our customer-first philosophy that began with our factory direct sales model. We’ll organise new boat commissioning out of the yard for our new Grand Banks, Palm Beach, and Eastbays, while also offering a complete array of yacht services for all of our owners and for all yachts.
“Gregg and Nancy Burdick have operated the yard since 1974, which also included a boatbuilding operation during one period,.Grand Banks Yachts is excited to continue an association with the Burdicks and the yard’s current staff.”
Stuart Yacht Basin will be home to Grand Banks, Palm Beach and Eastbay yachts, and will feature covered storage, a fully operational service division, a 50-ton Travelift and plentiful dock space. As well as commissioning and maintenance services, Grand Banks plans to use the facility to launch new products and host private functions.
Grand Banks is also planning further enhancements and renovations to the new site.
Mark Richards, Grand Banks Yachts CEO and Palm Beach Motor Yachts founder, noted, “After developing so much respect for the business Gregg and Nancy built we knew this was the right decision. The yard is surrounded by beautiful scenery, and it’s out of the congestion of other parts of South Florida. This creates a very natural fit for our culture and goals.”
A grand re-opening of Stuart Yacht Basin is in the works, with details to be revealed in due course.
