Lumotics Marine Set to Revolutionise Superyacht Lighting

UK based lighting control specialist, Lumotics Marine, has developed 'Mood Magic', the world's first integrated lighting controller for superyachts.

Making its world launch at METS 2010, this unique lighting control unit has been specifically designed to manage a mixed system of Halogen and the latest colour-changing LED lighting for universal application on superyachts.

'Mood Magic' allows precise management, offering smooth dimming, scheduling and grouping to provide fingertip ambient mood lighting control throughout the interior and exterior of superyachts. Other benefits include reliability, significant savings in cooling, weight and power, plus early identification of lighting faults or failures.

"Until recently, LED lighting design has been a rare concept at the design stage of yacht building. The control of lighting in yachts had been somewhat unreliable to date and has not matched the finesse that has been achieved in lighting for buildings and luxury homes. We have therefore developed a robust and fully reliable lighting control system exclusively for superyachts."

"With the launch of 'Mood Magic', we are able to make it a simple process for designers to incorporate highly controllable lighting systems into the interior design of superyachts either at the new build stage or refit. The system allows owners to make subtle changes to the yacht's environment, whilst wireless controls can be added to provide lighting control from iPads*, iPhones* and other touch screen displays from anywhere on the vessel," says Mike Lloyd, Managing Director of Lumotics Marine.

A single unit can run 20 independently dimmable channels, allowing owners to easily control a complete network of lights. Each channel can be set to provide power for Halogen or LED fixtures and provides voltage or constant current output, incorporating thermal protection, redundancy and power stabilisation.

The system is compatible with a wide range of switches and touch pads and with its DMX512, Ethernet and RS485 ports, 'Mood Magic' can interface with Audio (AV) and Integrated Bridge master controls. The inbuilt management system proactively identifies lighting faults anywhere aboard a superyacht.

'Mood Magic' has been designed to be extremely straightforward to fit and to interface with other onboard systems, minimising installation costs. 'Mood Magic' is 268mm x 215mm and only 60mm high, allowing the controller to be fitted into small spaces such as above the head linings in cabins. It weighs 2.2Kg. Power input is 24V or 230V.

Lumotics Marine has brought together a highly experienced team of design and manufacturing engineers to create 'Mood Magic' and will continue to develop the technology into further systems in the future. 'Mood Magic' loan units are available to boat builders and designers during concept design and first fit phases, accelerating design and integration.
