Meteor returns home for winter refit

51.59m sailing superyacht Meteor has this week returned to her home yard, Royal Huisman, for a winter refit. She comes back to Amsterdam for her 10-year Lloyd’s survey and to undergo various pieces of maintenance and cosmetic work.

Launched in mid-2007, Meteor was built from an aluminium hull designed by John G. Alden, while Dykstra developed her naval architecture. It proceeded to win the coveted title of ‘Sailing Yacht of the Year’ at the 2008 World Superyacht Awards

During the refit her classically styled interior will not be altered, with her wood-burning fireplace remaining a prominent feature. Accommodation aboard the vessel is split across three cabins and can house up to six guests, while the crew quarters can fit a total of 12 staff.

Meteor is a proven regatta racer having won the 2009 St Barths Bucket, and took class honours at both the 2014 Newport Bucket and the 2017 Candy Store Cup. She is powered by a single 805hp MTU 12V2000 M60 diesel engine that allows for a top speed of 11 knots and a nautical range of 2,972 miles at ten knots. It draws on a fuel capacity of 22,311 litres.

A couple of other refit projects are currently taking place alongside Meteor at Royal Huisman, including the 70.71m Lurssen superyacht Skat and the 32.22m Herreshoff scooner Vagrant.
