YPI Crew on getting crew recruitment right

It’s no secret that crew recruitment is a vital part of a Captain’s job. Laurence Lewis of YPI Crew, one of the leading superyacht crew agencies based in France, has recently published an article explaining the importance of an employer getting the interview right the first time.

The article highlights that once the yacht crew agency has provided a shortlist, the questions asked at the interview stage are pivotal in making sure the right candidate is hired.

Laurence suggests, by using an example, that asking “brainteaser” questions is a complete waste of time and only serves to make the interviewer feel smart.

The article then goes on to advise that the questions formulated should cover three key points: Can they do the job? Will they love the job? And can the interviewer tolerate working with them? Laurence then explains why these are important and sheds some light on what answers the employer should look out for.
